Pamelart Prints

Ah..."Prints"... a contentious word as the public seems confused about the difference between a "print" and a reproduction.  Fine art prints are works of art made by hand,  by the artist,  using some kind of plate...like a piece of linoleum or a zinc plate. The image is developed by various techniques such as acid etching, gouging out or inking and removing some ink to create a picture. The surface is then inked up and run through a press under great pressure, thus transferring the image onto the paper. This is done each and every time a new print is made.  Editions can be created...usually in small quantities... and each is signed and numbered by the artist.   A reproduction, on the other hand is usually a copy of an existing work of art such as a painting or collage, which is photoreproduced and run off by a printer in any quantity for a perfect image of the original. It is more or less a poster of the original.and in my opinion should be priced as such. A fine art print is an original art work through and through.

These prints of mine are "MONOTYPES"  That means the plate is developed in such a way that only one print is possible from each plate.  I used a piece of plexiglass as my plate.   The plexiglass is inked solidly all over using a brayer.  The ink is selectively wiped away with a finger, brush or any implement for that matter to create the image. It is then printed on an etching press thus transferring all the ink to the paper...leaving no residual image with which to print another.
